Katie Wood commits to Hurricanes

August 15, 2018

Coming off an MVP season for the Miller Marauders (high school) in Regina, Saskatchewan; Katie Wood makes the jump to collegiate volleyball by joining the Holland Hurricanes for the 2018-19 season.

In recent seasons, Wood has played elite club level volleyball highlighted by her time on Team Saskatchewan in 2016.  She was the Female Athlete of the Year with the Miller Marauders last season and the Most Valuable Player in her grade nine, 10 and 12 years.

“I wanted to play volleyball at the post-secondary level with high level-competition. PEI was somewhere I was interested in going to and after many conversations with the Hurricanes woman’s volleyball coach and Athletic Director, it seemed like a really good fit for me.”

‘Canes head coach Lori-Beth Dwyer is eager to add Wood to her roster.

“We are looking forward to the addition of Katie to our roster. She plays aggressive defense and is determined to keep the ball off the floor. She will add strength to our service reception and her versatility will be an asset to our lineup.”

Wood is excited to visit Prince Edward Island for the first time this fall.

“I’ve never been to the east coast before, so this is a super exciting opportunity for me.”

The 5’8” libero looks forward to bringing her digging and passing skills along with her determination and strong commitment to the Hurricanes this season.

“I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season, I can’t wait to contribute whatever I can to a successful year with the Hurricanes. It should be a great season, and the atmosphere will be very exciting with Holland College hosting the 2019 ACAA Volleyball Championships.”

Last season the Hurricanes finished the regular season in second place, before falling in the semi-finals to the STU Tommies at the conference championships.

The women’s volleyball Hurricanes open their ACAA regular season in Truro, NS versus the Dal AC Rams on October 22ndat 2pm.
